ROI in social media means thinking ahead, looking at current events, and finally executing an excellent strategy. Continually look at metrics provided to see what ideas work and which do not, and repeat the ones that do with a little twist to keep it fresh.

If you look at the different social platforms, you will see they all have their unique strong points and cater to different types of people. Though these people cover a wide range of tastes, they all have something in common. Pinners vs. Instagramers; Facebook vs. Twitter. Each one speaks a different language that you must follow in order to gain followers and more importantly ROI.

As an online advertising company, staying relevant at all times is key. No matter which platform, you must know what is current. With social media, everything is in real time. That means you must follow current events, know what people are talking about- and why- then if possible, connect it to the products or services you have.

Snapchat, for example, is for fast, witty, and shocking videos. As a social platform, they have come to the crossing of deciding how to showcase brands. Will their users be as loyal once they see a mired of ads, articles, and sponsored videos in their feed which used to be for friends only.

Social media is mostly visual, and you must think outside the box. In an age where digital advertising is key, you must use graphics and new designs in order to dazzle your audience. If you have something new, show them, don’t just tell them. If you don’t have in house designers, find yourself a graphics design company that can match your brand and work with you to build a useful supply of  designs.

Putting on a one-man show is not the answer. You must talk about anything of relevance, and be about yourself maybe one day out of the week.

“News-jacking” is key for highly invovled social media companies. Find the right causes and buzz feeds to be behind then tie in your own twist.

Lastly it is important to execute each part of your plan with a purpose, and if you don’t think you have what it takes, pretend that you do. A great article in Entrepreneur compares this to the relationship of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt. They gave all the impressions of a married couple, but still were not married. By faking it until they made it, they tricked the press, and snuck away to get married after being perceived as married for years. Not only did it save them from bad press, they were able to have the press work in their favor, by announcing their marriage right before their new film By the Sea premiered.

As in all media, social media platforms have to be manipulated a little bit in order to work out for your advantage. For this to work, you must speak in the favored style of the platform, pay attention to trends, and follow a strategic plan. Track your numbers to see which plans bring you the most profit. When you find what your audience is most responsive to, stick to those strategies, and continue with what works. Never stop looking at the numbers, so you know for a fact it’s generating ROI.
